Chis have been know to attack other much larger dogs It is your responsibility, as an owner, to keep this from occuring. A Chihuahua would be a smarter choice than Shih Tzu in that case. How much dog can you lift? A Pug is an easy going companion but may weigh 18-pounds whilst a Yorkshire Terrier customarily does not surpass 7-pounds. How much grooming are you able to do? If arthritis is an issue, avoid longhaired breeds like Pekingese or Maltese and look at short, smooth-haired dogs like Toy Manchester Terrier. How much exercise will the dog need? Any Terrier is a high-energy dog requiring outdoor exercise. Can you get pet insurance? Many companies offer group rates to their workers and retirees. Would being a "foster" owner satisfy your desire for dog companionship? Even if you do not need to take a dog into your home, shelters always need folks who can walk and play with the dogs or provide short lived housing. Be certain to include instructions in your will on how your pet should be placed. You and the dog will have a much happier relationship if you do.
